The construction of the second additional line from Turpan to Korla started in May 2007. It is a key project of the 12th Five-Year Plan. The project is located in Turpan and Bayinguoleng Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture of Xinjiang. The total length of the project is about 334 kilometers. It is a class I double-track electrified railway. It is an important railway passage from Southern Xinjiang to northern Xinjiang and inland.
