天平鐵路是甘肅省“十一五”重點建設項目，為國鐵一級單線電氣化鐵路。設計年輸送能力為客車2對/日，貨物1600萬噸/年。該鐵路起點自隴海鐵路天水站引出，途經麥積、清水、張家川，沿蓮花臺抵達平涼華亭煤礦集配站，全長約123公里，速度目標值為每小時120公里，雙機電車牽引。
The balance railway is a key construction project of Gansu in 11th Five-Year, which is a single line electrified railway at the national railway level. The annual capacity of the design is 2 pairs / days for passenger cars, and 16 million tons / year for goods. The railway starts from Tianshui Station of Longhai Railway, passes through Maiji, Qingshui and Zhangjiachuan, and reaches Huating Coal Mine Distribution Station of Pingliang along Lianhuatai. The total length of the railway is about 123 kilometers. The speed target value is 120 kilometers per hour, and the two-car traction.
