深茂鐵路（深圳－茂名）東起深圳北站，途經東莞、廣州（南沙）、中山、江門、陽江、茂名、鰲頭，終于茂名東站，全長390.1公里，客運時速250公里/小時，初期每天運行車次95對，貨運120公里，是客貨共線。開平站，即開平市火車站，位于廣東省開平市三埠街道燕山村，上行方向與臺山站相鄰，下行方向與恩平站相鄰。恩平站即位于恩平市東成鎮境內，距離恩平市區約6公里。恩平站為線側平式站房，建筑面積6000平方米，旅客流線為下進下出。車站為2臺5線設計，側式站臺1個，島式站臺1個，正線2條，到發線3條。
